The most difficult task faced by commercial shippers is to guaranty the integrity of their palletized cargo when it is out of their care and control. Thieves can easily access pallets with conventional banding and remove and replace that generic banding with little skill or effort. The Topp Clip was developed and patented in 1996 in an effort to curtail the theft of cell phones. The product provides a 4 prong, solid steel locking mechanism for the generic plastic bands on a pallet. No special tools are required to use the clip besides the standard tensioner and crimper. Once applied extraction or replacement of the bands is impossible without easy visual recognition. Like any security component, a visual inspection protocol is essential to achieving 100% effectiveness. Users need to inform recipients of the Topp Clip number, Topp Seal Number and the fact that the device is used on their goods. The Topp Label facilitates recording of these numbers in a self voiding format atop the pallet. A properly used protocol for checking numbers, empowers every handler of the cargo to make his own integrity check. Pallets sealed with the Topp Clip are afforded the knowledge that replacement is impossible and that their cargo is inherently more secure than any other sealing technique for a pallet! The Topp Clip is applied as a final step in the pallet construction. Detailed photos of the various stages in sealing the carton are attached. The only tools needed are typically already in your facility. A standard band crimping and tensioning tool will work with our Topp Clip. We recommend 1/2" to 5/8" nylon or polypropylene banding although steel will work as well in 1/2". The center punch tool comes in the sample kit along with 50 sets of product. Topp Clips are sold in cases which have 200 clips in them. It is always recommended that corner boards be used on the top, front, sides and bottom of the pallet first, then clear stretch film and finally the banding and Topp Clip such that the Topp Clip and banding are easily visible and accessible for inspection. Topp Clips may also be used to close crates, totes, and air containers or in applications where no other closure mechanism is available. By providing the opportunity to detect, deter and identify in-transit theft you lessen your exposure to losses. After your cargo reaches its destination, you can use the Topp Clip protected pallets as a storage security tool to help save time when counting items or when taking physical inventory. Additionally it allows you to prevent tampering or theft of pallet contents and also to avoid repacking for cross docked or trans-ship freight. Topp Clips are economical and practical and they provide the confidence to securely ship pallets in an insecure world.
